  2. Sketch-a-Day #79

I’m thinking of doing a whole series of these things. Actual finished drawings; not just sketches. When I have time. If I have time.

  3. Sketch-a-Day #78 – The Returnening

Here we are again. I kept sketching; just stopped scanning and posting. I caught up this morning. Tonight I’ll be drawing #92.

I still haven’t “cheated” by drawing ahead or doing make-up drawings, if that matters to anyone but me. I know at some point something’s going to happen to derail me for at least a day, but it hasn’t happened yet. Since the weather is getting nice I’ve started riding my motorcycle more and two days in a row I’ve had morons in SUVs cut into my lane without seeing me, so… you know. Luckily I’ve been keeping my eye out for morons and they haven’t got me yet. There are just so many of them, and I only have two eyes.

While I’m still having trouble coming up with ideas of what to draw, I haven’t had the massive urge to quit again since the last time I mentioned it. Although looking at today’s drawing reminds me of why I might want to quit. Ugh.

Should I bother going into the thought process on this one, or just let it slide into digital oblivion without further comment?

Fine. Why not. It’s been awhile since I wrote about what I’ve drawn. Here goes…

I was thinking about the boxer breed of dog, taken literally. Or about a kid who wished his dog was a boxer. Or a young Michael Vick. Then I drew the dog. Then I made the mistake of drawing the kid without having an end in mind. I started with the face, and then hated the idea instantly. I knew that adding in the kid made it take on a level of cruelty that I didn’t really intend. The dog’s eyebrow doesn’t help. Which is why the line quality gets all sketchy and goes pretty much to hell. The carpet was the last thing I drew. I think at the end of it all I dropped my pencil in disgust and hated myself a bit more than usual.

The good news is the next night I drew something that I really like.
