    Old lady. Moving on.

    Sketch 023

This was an experiment that I’ll probably be doing again. I drew a shape in my daughter’s sketchbook, and she drew a shape in mine, and we had to turn them into something. The shape she drew turned into the bird critter dive-bombing the cake. I was liking this idea up until I drew the guy. The guy is a whopping pile of suck.

Yeah. Sorry about that. No idea why I made it. It just happened. I wish I could say I was drunk, but that would be a lie. If only I HAD been drunk…

  4. A brief side-note

    January 30, 2011 by Collin

Since starting this sketch project I’ve been paying a bit more attention to the numbers of visitors I get each day (not many… between 0 and 18), which posts are the most popular, how they got here, etc.

One of the stats given is Search Engine Terms. One of the terms was “jurassic jesus” which I thought was quite amusing. Then I realized that I have a post called “Jurassic Jesus” that I wrote back in 2004 and had completely forgotten about.

Re-reading it reminded me of how funny I used to be at times. At least it managed to amuse me after all this time.

I wonder if the person who found the site through that term left satisfied.

    Sketch #21

I like how this one turned out too. I started with an idea for teeth and nothing else. Jordyn had already gone to her mom’s for the weekend, Heather was at work, Justin was in his room, and I had no outside influence this time. All-in-all, not the disaster that I expected going into it.

    Sketch #20

This is another one that for the most part I really like. I love how his head turned out. The theme of “Let’s draw dinosaurs!” was suggested by Jordyn. The object of the dinosaur’s attention was added as an afterthought.

    Sketch #19

The theme for today’s sketch was suggested by my son. Not that I’m blaming him for it. It was a good idea, and the initial images that came to my mind were certainly worthy. The execution is lacking. His idea was, “How about food having a food fight throwing other food.” You can see for yourself how that turned out.

What I take from this is there isn’t much food in my fridge, eggs are screwed because they don’t have legs, milk throws like a girl and juice is slightly retarded.

  8. Sketch-a-Day #18

    Sketch #18

This started as a birthday cake, because I drew it on my daughter’s birthday. I sat down to sketch, ran through the usual “What the hell am I going to sketch today?” routine that I’ve gone through for the past 17 days. Thought “Cake!” and drew the line that ended up as the inner (page-left) cowl line, paused and looked at it.

That always seems to be my downfall when drawing from my imagination. Pausing and looking.

In that pause I realized that I just didn’t have a cake in me that day. If I’d pushed on in my cake goal it would have ended in sadness, possibly tears and several lesser angels might have fallen from heaven. I couldn’t really have that.

So I cast about inside my brain to see just what I did have in me that day. Turns out it was this fellow. Who would have thought?

  9. Sketch-a-Day #17

    Sketch #17

For the most part I really like how this one turned out. The progression of the drawing was face, helmet, chest, arm, hand… and right then I f’ed up again. Not with the number of fingers. That was intentional. Just how it looked. Luckily I was able to power past that feeling of dread and doom by reminding myself that it’s just a sketch, not a finished drawing, and the purpose behind this exercise, so I was able to finish it without giving up. It’s also one that ended up looking pretty close to what I had in mind when I started.

    I would like to say

    “Happy Birthday!”

    to my wonderful wife, Heather.

    Sketch #16

What can I say about this one, apart from “Blargh…”

It’s another prime example of my sketch deviating wildly from what I’d intended. You can probably guess where I started. The mouth. I probably spent half of my total time just on the mouth. It was going to be something troll-like. Then I drew the top of the head shape, and I took a second to look at it, and something in my mind said, “Fish. Shark perhaps. But go with fish.” Stupid mind. I really gave up after drawing the tail.

So… sorry about this one. Tomorrow will be better.
